MKG Method at Boombox
Weekly MKG Method classes at Boombox will teach you MKG International’s signature blend of Martial Artistry. These ingredients are selected for the attributes they develop in the student, including things like, speed, power, technical skill, tactile awareness, athleticism, body mechanics, and more. They are a platform for creating a truly well-rounded Martial Artist.
The MKG Method includes, but is not limited to:

-
Kali-Escrima-Arnis: Filipino Weaponry
Exciting stick, sword, and knife fighting famous for defending the Moro people against colonization, and in more modern times, for their impact on Hollywood action cinema.
-
Jeet Kune Do & Wing Chun
The Martial Styles of the legendary Bruce Lee! Lee is considered to be one of the grandfathers of modern Mixed Martial Arts. MKG trains in Wing Chun, the art that impacted Lee the most, and Jeet Kune Do, the style that Lee himself created.

-
Muay Thai
“Thai Boxing” has always served as the conditioning platform for MKG, as well as a primary source for strong defense, and heavy tools. MKG was among the very fist organizations to formally promote Muay Thai in the United States.
-
Panantukan & Silat
Panantukan & Silat are Filipino and Indonesian fighting methods celebrated for their devastating techniques, which combine with advanced footwork and combat tactics. As beautiful as they are functional, these arts are very unique, and offer the MKG Method high-level tools for personal protection.
More About
MKG Martial Arts
The MKG International Martial Art Association has been a trusted and celebrated global community of Martial Art Professionals since 1982. Members include Gym Owners, Pro Fighters and Coaches, Professional Actors and Stunt Coordinators, and everyday students. This family of Martial Artists has put together a tried and true blend of styles and training methods known worldwide as the MKG Method of Martial Arts Training. At Boombox, the MKG Method is the heart and soul of our programming. We are proud to offer weekly classes in exactly this methodology.
Created by Rick Faye, under the guidance of the Martial Art legend Dan Inosanto, MKG was founded as the “Minnesota Kali Group” in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the organization is still headquartered. MKG has since grown into a global institution with dozens of official Branch Schools, and even more Affiliate Schools, spread across 5 continents.
Boombox is also known as “MKG Detroit”, and is Michigan’s headquarters for all things MKG. Boombox Founder and Owner Kurt Cornwell is one of only a few select people to have been given a Level 3 Instructorship in the MKG Method. He lived in Minneapolis for many years, studying directly under Sifu Rick Faye, and teaching regular weekly classes at MKG HQ.
